Privacy Policy
Flag is an app for sending links, music, videos, notes, and to-do lists to people you know. This policy explains what information Flag collects, how it's used, who it's shared with, and the choices you have. If you have questions, email support@flagem.app.
The short version
- We collect what's needed to run Flag: your account details and the things you send and do in the app.
- We don't sell your information, show ads, or use tracking or analytics tools.
- Your flags are visible only to the people you send them to, unless you mark one Public.
- You can ask us to delete your account and data at any time.
Information we collect
Account information. Your email address, the display name you choose, and your password (stored only in a scrambled, one-way form that no one can read).
What you create and send. The flags you send and receive, including titles, descriptions, links, categories, to-do list items, and any photos, videos, or files you upload; chat messages on flags; reactions; likes on public flags; and the group names you set.
Your settings in the app. Things like which flags you've checked off, archived, favorited, or prioritized; your Favorites folders; the order you arrange flags in; the chats you've archived; and the people, groups, or flags you've silenced.
Device information for notifications. If you allow notifications, a notification token from Apple that lets us deliver alerts to your iPhone. It identifies your device for notifications only.
We do not collect your contacts, location, or browsing history, and we don't use advertising identifiers.
How we use your information
- To create and secure your account and let you log in.
- To deliver your flags, messages, and reactions to the people you choose.
- To send you notifications about new flags and messages (unless you've silenced them or turned notifications off).
- To send account emails you request, such as password-reset codes and reminders of your username.
- To show public flags in the Popular tab and rank them by likes.
- To keep Flag working, fix problems, and protect against abuse.
Who can see what
- Your display name is visible to other Flag users, so they can find you and send you flags.
- Flags, messages, and reactions are visible to the sender and the people the flag was sent to.
- Public flags (ones you mark Public) are visible to everyone who uses Flag, along with your display name, their likes, reactions, and messages.
- Uploaded photos and files are stored at a web address that's hard to guess, but anyone who has that address can open it. Don't upload anything you wouldn't want shared.
Services we use
We rely on a few trusted companies to run Flag. They process information only to provide their service to us:
- Supabase stores your account and app data, handles log-in, and stores uploaded files.
- Apple Push Notification service delivers notifications to your iPhone.
- Resend sends account emails such as password-reset codes.
- Microlink receives the web address of a link you add to a flag, so it can fetch the page's title and preview image.
- Cloudflare hosts this website.
We may also share information if required by law, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
How long we keep information
We keep your information while your account is open. If you delete your account, we delete your account information and the content you created. Flags you sent to other people may remain visible to them where needed to keep their conversations intact, and copies may persist in backups for a limited time before being removed.
Your choices
- Notifications: turn them off in iPhone Settings, or silence specific people, groups, or flags in Flag.
- Public flags: flags are private unless you choose Public when sending.
- Access, correction, or deletion: email support@flagem.app from your account's email address to ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion of your account.
Security
Your information is sent over encrypted connections. Our database is set up so people can only read and change what they're allowed to: their own account, and flags they're part of or that are public. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children
Flag is not intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes, we'll update this page and the date above, and let you know in the app if the change is significant.
